2024 Calving Wrap Up!

Calving is done and dusted for another year here at Blue-E!

Accurate data collection is vital at calving!

Accurate and timely data collection is the backbone of effective performance recording, which is what allows us to compare our animals to others across the world in the Leachman $Profit Analysis. Calving is our first data point for every stud animal. We catch and tag all calves at birth, record their mother, and collect their birth weight, colour and sex. Accurate date of birth and birthweight gives us an accurate starting point for our growth data, as well as being valuable information for later selection on calving ease traits. All of this calving data also feeds back through the pedigree and gives us greater accuracy of EBV figures on both sires and dams.
